Listed on Spamhaus PBL? How to get delisted
pbl.spamhaus.org
What a listing means
The PBL lists address ranges that should not send mail directly to the internet, such as dynamic consumer connections. A PBL listing is a policy statement, not an accusation of spam.
How removal works
Send through your provider’s or email service’s smarthost. If you really run a mail server on a static IP with proper reverse DNS, you can remove the IP on the Spamhaus checker.
Before you request removal
- Confirm the listing with ProbeKit’s blacklist check and note every list that shows the IP or domain.
- Find the cause: compromised mailbox passwords, malware on a device, an open relay or open proxy, a misbehaving web form, or sending to purchased or stale lists.
- Fix it, and make sure the IP has a proper reverse DNS (PTR) name and that SPF, DKIM and DMARC pass for your mail.
- Use the list operator’s removal process. Requesting removal before fixing the cause usually gets the IP relisted.
- Re-check after a day, and add a blacklist monitor so you hear about the next listing before your users do.
