Listed on the Barracuda Reputation Block List (BRBL)
550 permanent failure ... listed on b.barracudacentral.org
Barracuda's BRBL feeds every Barracuda spam-firewall appliance, which guard an outsized share of small-business and education mailboxes. When you are listed, mail to those recipients bounces with a reference to b.barracudacentral.org, while Gmail and Outlook keep accepting your mail — a confusing failure pattern where only *some* recipients bounce.
Why it happens
BRBL listings come from Barracuda's own spam-trap network and customer telemetry. Common causes: a burst of mail to stale addresses (list hygiene), a compromised mailbox, missing reverse DNS, or a fresh IP with no sending history suddenly emitting volume ("warm-up" problem).
Diagnose it
Confirm the listing with the blocklist check below — it shows BRBL alongside 39 other lists, which matters: if Spamhaus XBL also lists you, you have a compromise to fix, not a reputation blip. Also verify your PTR record exists and matches your HELO name (the SMTP diagnostics tool shows both).
Fix it
1. Fix the cause: clean the compromised account, prune your list, set proper rDNS, throttle new-IP volume.
2. Use Barracuda's removal request at barracudacentral.org/rbl/removal-request. It is free — ignore paid "expedited delisting" middlemen. You will need the IP and a contact address; removals typically process within a few hours.
3. Monitor the IP afterwards — BRBL relists fast if traps keep firing, and catching it same-day keeps the damage small.
